Background of Groot
Groot is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy (intergalactic outlaws who protect the galaxy) in many Marvel comic book series and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a plant-like species with superhuman abilities, Groot is extremely durable to physical attacks and can regrow his entire body from something as small as a twig. With great care for his friends, Groot sacrifices himself to save the Guardians by forming a protective sphere to cover them from being crushed. Using one of his remaining twigs, Groot was planted and was reborn as a baby.
